There's Still Time to Register for the 2025 SCBWI-MI Illustrator Mentorship!
If you're an author-illustrator, this mentorship could be a game-changer. Even if you don’t win, the application process itself offers valuable growth and learning.
I didn’t fully appreciate the benefits of such a process until my kids joined band and orchestra. To attend their music camps, they had to submit a video of themselves playing their instruments. These videos helped judges assign them to the appropriate section and allowed conductors to select music tailored to the skill levels of the musicians.
But the real learning came from making the video. Selecting a piece, practicing, recording, uploading, and submitting it on time—each step presented its own challenges. They had to choose music that showcased their abilities, plan extra practice time, and deal with technical issues like file size limits, which sometimes required re-recording. After submitting, there was the anxious wait for results, often until just before camp started.
Similarly, the process of preparing your mentorship application is where much of the growth happens. From crafting your submission to meeting the deadline, each step helps refine your skills and deepen your understanding of your craft.
Why not give it a try? The experience alone is worth it. Apply today—registration closes on January 17, 2025.
